Sponsor | Vortexfugue | Apr 30, 10:52am | | Today on Oprah: "Endurance artist David Blaine tries to break the Guinness world record for underwater breath-holding." Hmm, I see they got the Guinness people there, nice effect. 17 minutes, 4 seconds. Yeah, right. Neat trick, Dave. Heh. |

It would be interesting to find out how this was done. I want to think that with Guiness involved it's not some camera trick.
Did bubbles continue to go up at different times? Indicating some oxygen source? |

Sponsor | Vortexfugue | Apr 30, 3:21pm | | Me too. Did you see how his heart rate was at like 130 bpm the entire 17 minutes and yet he wasn't taking in air? Um, sure. Penn Jillette and Criss Angel ripping into Baline's "stunts". |

| | InadvertentlyMe | Apr 30, 3:23pm | | I didn't see it, but if there's a youtube or something... I'm gonna be watching it. |

Sponsor | Vortexfugue | Apr 30, 3:28pm | | You should've seen the suit alone he was wearing. Full body suit and the thing looked bloated... it was just screaming "trick contained within". Every one of his "endurance" stunts have been magician's tricks, I doubt this one was any different. |

| | InadvertentlyMe | Apr 30, 3:34pm | | Argh. That Oprah goes in for this stuff... and a lot of other stuff... it just annoys me to no end. |
Sponsor | Vortexfugue | Apr 30, 3:38pm | | Yeah, same here. Blaine called up Oprah to set it all up with her. She bought right in. It'll be interesting to see if Guinness actually publishes the record with Blaine's name beside it. Next up: Blaine's working on the staying-awake-the-longest "stunt". He wants to do it for 11.57 days (1,000,000 minutes). Ooh, I can't wait. Maybe Guinness will be there for that one too. |

| | InadvertentlyMe | Apr 30, 3:40pm | It's good for ratings...
I mean... you watched. :-P And I don't fault you. It just does no service to raising people's awareness. |

 Sponsor | Vortexfugue | Apr 30, 3:42pm | | I watched so I could chuckle at the scam he was pulling. |
| | InadvertentlyMe | Apr 30, 3:44pm | | And I don't blame you. Maybe I'm just a jaded old skeptic... but I think half of what she does is calculated rating fodder. |
